Kari, Artist: Self portraits taken in various locations

Kari Otero is an artist currently living in New York. Native of California, she is a graduate from Hunter College in New York City with degrees in both dance performance/choreography and media communicatons. Her narrative style photography is greatly influenced by her experience working in dance, theatre and live events as a performer/choreographer and producer. She has collaborated with dancers, writers, designers, musicians and other artists in particular to create and produce both performances and photographs for a variety of audiences in New York City.

In November 2002 as featured in NY Arts Magazine, Kari launched her on-line narrative photography exhibit entitled THE AFFAIR, curated by Massive Studios. Also featured in NY Arts Magazine July 2004, Kari created and produced her first site-specific work combining dance, theatre and photography entitled THE APARTMENT. Her other site-specific works featuring her photography include APT. B, THE DRESS @ RARE, ABANDONED UPSTAIRS and PICTURE SHOW. Kari is co-founder of Edge of Insanity, a NY theatre company and resident member of the Horse Trade Theater Group. Producing credits include IN THE RED ROOM and GALAXY VIDEO. Kari had the honor of working for the estate of Jonathan Larson (creator of RENT and tick, tick...BOOM!) and the Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation (1997-2006.) During this time Kari held various positions helping to coordinate live events for the Nantucket Film Festival, Project A.L.S. and RENT to name a few. Her photography exhibits in New York include THE DRESS, BACK ALLEYS TO BOMBSHELLS, DESIGNER'S BALL @ The Puck Building, THE MASK and ABANDONED. September, 2006 marks the launch of www.mrsophoto.com, home of Portrait Photography by Kari Otero. Her artistic vision focuses now on her desire to continue to develop her unique style of portrait photography, creating one-of-a-kind portraits for all kinds of people.
